German Helmets become popular amongst motorcyycle riders
The helmet itself it sports a classic design recognizable and unique in the modern helmet world of full (suffocating), boringly round, and the “rider behind the dark plastic face shield” looks common today. This German styled helmet says, “I am a rider and I have a face,” out loud. Paired with either authentically styled retro goggles, or even with the sleeker new style goggles, the German styled helmet makes a statement of individuality and savvy. Put two riders side by side on bikes and the one with the German helmet will have the strongest presence – hands down.

The German helmet is basically a crown cover with a lip to keep the rain off and your head protected. It has a little more dome in the back which actually helps to shed some wind and moisture and, mostly, in my opinion, to make the helmet look really cool. It straps on, requires goggles, or some eye protection, and it a great place to express yourself. Add the German cross, the classic skull and crossbones, your name, all of the fore-mentioned, or leave it blank and dull black. Your imagination is the limit and there are many different finishes available today to choose from for the helmet. Shiny black, matte black, chrome, white, pink (yes, pink), or leather covered. If these are not enough, get the basic matte black one and pick up your own art tools of choice and have at it. If there was a meeting of all the German helmeted riders it would be a blast for the eyes to see all the amazing designs and ideas that have been tattooed on this classic helmet.
Fitting a helmet is simple. Have someone measure around your head about an inch above the ear using a cloth tape for a good measurement. If you don’t have a tape, most rider gear stores should have one or use a string and then measure it on a ruler or carpenter’s tape. Then compare the measurement to the sizes available. If you are between two sizes choose the smaller one as the larger one will be too loose to be secure. Strap the helmet on and happy riding.
